Product & System Design

Engineering Capabilities

From Concept to Verified Design

Every project starts with the operating conditions: vessel RAOs, target weather window, load characteristics, interface constraints, and lifecycle expectations. We translate these into a concrete design that meets classification requirements and integrates cleanly with the rest of the lifting system.

For motion compensation systems, this includes selecting the right compensator type (passive, adaptive passive, or active), sizing the gas spring and hydraulic damping to avoid resonance in the expected wave spectrum, and specifying the instrumentation and control logic.

Outside motion compensation, we design custom hydraulic cylinders, power units, and specialised hydraulic equipment for subsea and topside use. Typical cylinders range up to 30 m stroke, 2.5 m diameter, 200 t weight, and 1000 bar working pressure. Lead times for custom hydraulic cylinders are typically 4–10 weeks from order.

Retrofits and Upgrades of Existing Systems

We also engineer retrofits and upgrades for existing compensator systems from any manufacturer. If your installed equipment no longer meets operational requirements — changed load envelope, new classification requirements, end-of-life components, or poor original specification — we can assess the system and design a modification that brings it back into useful service.

This is often faster and more cost-effective than replacing a full system, and it is the kind of work where a small, experienced engineering team delivers more value than a large OEM organisation with long response times.
